... telling your story through video
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
1) I have iMovie on my MAC or a Video Editing application on my PC that I purchased for just $100, can’t I produce the same type of videos that you offer?
If you have the time, dedication and creativity to produce your own video production, I strongly encourage you to do so. It is quite fulfilling and healing to pour over your (or your loved ones) memories. One of the most gratifying video production I have completed to date is a 20 minute Video Scrapbook for my parents 50th Anniversary. With each and every photo and video clip that I worked on, I learned more and fondly remembered moments that they experienced in their marriage.
On the other hand, if you don’t have the time, dedication or the technical know how, then we would be honored to be your ’ghost writer’ and tell your story for you. Just like you might hire a caterer for that special event, rather than preparing and cooking the meal yourself, you can call on us to help create that treasured video keepsake. And just like the caterer who is talented in their craft and delight in serving you their delicacies, we too are experienced and passionate about video production. We also have the professional equipment necessary to make your video production efficiently and effectively.
Even when we produce your video, there is a commitment on your part to truly make it your story. You will need to choose which photos, video clips and mementos to include. Going through all those boxes in the attic can be quite time consuming, but also very fulfilling. We are available to help you every step of the way.
2) What type of photos can I use to create my Video Tribute?
The Video Tribute can include digital photos on a CD or DVD or photos that we can scan for you. Photos to be scanned should be of good quality. We provide color correction and touch ups, but some photos may still have that ‘old’ or ‘faded’ look and might have some noticeable scratches. A photo is only displayed for a few seconds, therefore, a few of these type photos will not affect the final production and our experience has shown that this can add character to the video. We can also scan from slides.
3) Which photos, video clips and mementos should I choose to include in my Video Scrapbook?
You may already know the exact items you'd like to include in your Video Scrapbook, but here are some additional tips that may help.
Choose photos or video clips that move you and bring back special memories. A mix of close ups, group shots and action shots keep your audience engaged. For photos, choose more horizontal shots than vertical shots. The aspect ratio for these type of shots fit better to the 4:3 or 16:9 formats of TV.
Choose mementos that will photograph well and have special significance to the audience. For example, a diploma, grandmother's favorite quilt, baby's first shoes.
We will send you a worksheet that you will use to organize your items. Don’t hesitate to contact us as frequently as needed. We want this to be a rewarding experience for you.
4) I have some home videos that were taken several years ago and are on VHS tape and 8mm film. Can you include these in my video production?
We can convert VHS tape to a format that can be used in your video production. We also accept 8mm, Super 8mm or 16mm film. Please allow 3-4 weeks to convert your old home movies. We will send your 8mm, Super 8mm or 16mm film to our business partner who specializes in transfer services and will covert your movies frame-by-frame, ready for your video production.
5) Can I order additional copies of my video?
When we deliver your final video, you can order additional copies of the DVD or VHS tape for just $15.00 each. If you need more than ten copies, we can offer you quantity discounts. We will keep your video on file for one year so you can easily order more copies during that timeframe.
6) Who will see my video?
Just the people you want to see it. We only keep one copy of your video for one year for your convenience to order more copies. Rest assured, your privacy is always our top priority.
7) What if there are some things I don't want to talk about when I get interviewed for my Video Memoir?
We will not force you to say anything that you don't want to say. However, it might help your family and loved ones to hear you speak of the painful times of your life and to hear how you survived them. This can be especially valuable to future generations when they are going through their own tough times. In saying that, we will review with you a customized list of topics -- chosen by you -- prior to the video interview and we will only ask questions from this list. We can also 'edit out' any video takes that you prefer not to include. It's your story, and we want to tell it the way you want it told.
8) Where does the interview for my Video Memoir take place?
The video interviews are usually conducted at your home. We will conduct the video interview where you feel most comfortable. To avoid distractions, it is best for other family members to not be in the same room with you. Even if the Video Memoir includes the story of two people, such as a married couple, it’s best to interview each person individually.
We might need to make some adjustments to put you in the best ’light’. For example, we may ask you to sit in a different chair or we could move your chair to a better location in the same room. Speaking of lights, we use professional video lights that will not heat up, but are very bright. You may want to take this into consideration when choosing what clothes to wear for the interview or whether you want to wear makeup and how much. We use professional lavaliere microphones that we will ask you to attach to your clothing.
9) I live in Seattle. Do you provide your services to this area?
We are located in the San Juan Islands and also serve surrounding areas in Washington, including Seattle. We can travel to location for Video Promotions, Video Memoirs or Video Ethical Wills. Reimbursement for travel expenses may apply.
You can send your photos, video clips and music to us for Video Tributes and Video Scrapbooks. We can complete your Video Tribute or Video Scrapbook at our location. Drafts can be viewed online and final video productions will be sent to you by mail.
10) How long does it take to complete my video production?
It varies according to the scope of the video production. Video Tributes can be completed in approximately one week. Video Tributes for a memorial service warrants special urgency and attention. Often a Video Tribute under these circumstances can be completed in a matter of days.
Video Scrapbooks and Video Promotions can take two to four weeks, depending on the scope and length of the final video.
Video Memoirs may require several months and many revisions to complete. The final video is priceless and timeless. The impact these Video Memoirs make are profound and life changing. Knowing this compels us to take no shortcuts or not to rush the creative process -- both yours and ours.
Please tell us about your time commitments. Is there an anniversary celebration that the video will be shown at? Is this a Christmas present? We will do our best to make your commitments and we will be honest about what we can accomplish and by when.
